August 1999: Arrived in the Philippines and commanded the 1st Brigade of the 2nd Division

Mustered out of service and commissioned as Brigadier General in Regular Army

After the war, was commander of the Department of the Lakes

September 10, 1900: Retired and moved to New York City

Died after long illness and is one of the few former Confederates buried in Arlington Cemetery
