May 1862: Regiments colonel resigned and Gordon was elected Colonel
May 31-Jun1, 1862: Battle of Seven Pines - Gordon took command of the brigade after Brig. Gen. Robert Rodes was wounded

November 1, 1862: General Lee was impressed with Gordon and recommended a promotion to Brigadier General, however, was not confirmed due to the many wounds at the Battle of Antieltam
Upon returning to service, received a brigade command in Gen. Early division
May 7, 1863: Gen. Lee requested his promotion and was approved
Gettysburg Campaign: Gordon occupied the town of Wrightsville on the Susquehanna River. This was the farthest east any Confederate troops would reach. However, Union militia under Col. John Frick set fire to the covered bridge across the river. The started to burn and Gordon had his troops set-up a bucket brigade to save the town.
