April 1862: Brigadier General of Volunteers and given command of Department and Army of Kansas

September 30, 1862: 1st Battle of Newtonia

October 22, 1862: Battle of Old Fort Wagner

March 16, 1863: Major General - Only officer from Kansas to achieve that rank

1873: Accused by the DOJ of conspiracy to defraud the government and a body of the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina

1879: Committed to asylum for erratic behavior
