Harper's Ferry - Harper's Weekly Article

The following article is transcribed for Harper's Weekly Journal of Civilization, dated September 27, 1862:

Surrender of Harper's Ferry

Harper's Ferry was gallantly held by Colonel Miles and General White against an overwhelming force for two days or more, but was compelled to surrender at ten o'clock on Monday morning. The rebels are raid to have abandoned it on the 16th, in such haste that they had not time to parole more than half the prisoners, the rest being discharged, unconditionally, of course. Colonel Miles was wounded in the action by a shell in the keg and is said to have since died of his wound.
